Background
Homocysteine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that plays a crucial role in methylation reactions. Transfer of the methyl group from betaine to homocysteine creates methionine, which donates the methyl group to methylate DNA, proteins, lipids, and other intracellular metabolites. The protein encoded by this gene is one of two methyl transferases that can catalyze the transfer of the methyl group from betaine to homocysteine. Anomalies in homocysteine metabolism have been implicated in disorders ranging from vascular disease to neural tube birth defects such as spina bifida. [provided by RefSeq]

FAQs for BHMT2 Antibody (NBP1-85826). (Showing 1 - 1 of 1 FAQ).
-
I was looking at the BHMT2 antibody IHC image in brain tissue and I want to know where is this protein expressed? Cytosolic or nuclear ? the image you are showing does not have details.
- BHMT2 protein is not a very well published target and I do not see any research paper with its immuno-staining data. However, our antibodies NBP1-85826 and NBP2-15585 depicted a strong cytoplasmic staining with mild nuclear positivity for this target in IHC-P and ICC-IF assays. Human Protein Atlas also shows mainly cytoplasmic staining in hepatocytes, renal tubules, thyroid gland and a subset of cells in exocrine pancreas. Chadwick et al. (Genomics. 2000 Nov 15;70(1):66-73) reported that BHMT2 is expressed in liver and kidney, and at reduced levels in the brain, heart, and skeletal muscle.
