Novus Philanthropy

Novus Biologicals is full of employees who want to make a difference and want to give back to our community and beyond. As a team, we have participated in and donated to multiple organizations and look forward to a future full of many more opportunities like these.

Sponsorships
Novus Biologicals is a Patron sponsor of the Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology. This organization serves as a catalyst for the advancement of biomedical and life sciences by connecting scientists within and across disciplines at conferences and workshops held at venues that create an environment conducive to information exchange, generation of new ideas, and acceleration of applications that benefit society. Over 50 conferences are held per year, with an average of 250 participants at each conference.

Novus Biologicals is also proud to be a sponsor of the Scientific Symposium in Memory of Ralph M. Steinman held at The Rockefeller University.

Donations
As part of our 2011 Christmas card, Novus Biologicals made year-end donations to the Cancer Research UK (Europe office), the AMC Cancer Fund (US office) and McMaster Children's Hospital (Canada office).

Each month, the Novus Biologicals team gathers for a potluck staff meeting. Two employees are chosen at random during each gathering to donate to a charity of their choice. The Novus team created a bulletin board containing all organizations chosen by Novus employees. We hope to donate to each and every one of these wonderful charities. For the 2011 year, our goal is to donate to 20 non-profit organizations. Listed below are the organizations to which Novus Biologicals has donated.

Colorado Avalanche Information Center

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC)
Chosen by David Stegemeier, Product Marketing Specialist
"The CAIC, a program of the Colorado Geological Survey, promotes avalanche awareness and education throughout the state of Colorado. Since 1950, avalanches have killed more people in Colorado than any other natural hazard, and in the United States, Colorado accounts for one-third of all avalanche deaths. The purpose of the CAIC is to minimize the economic and human impact of snow avalanches on recreation, tourism, commerce, industry and the citizens of Colorado through avalanche forecasting, education, and awareness. CAIC is responsible for saving countless lives each winter and ensuring that remote backcountry areas may be accessed as safely as possible." Read also about the "Friends of CAIC" here.

Love Hope Strength

Love, Hope, Strength
Chosen by Lindsey Buffy, Accounting Assistant
"I chose the Love Hope Strength Foundation - because of their mission. 'LHSF is an international, music-centric cancer charity dedicated to saving lives, one concert at a time'. This sentence sums it all up for me. I love music and going to concerts, they have a great campaign, 'GET ON THE LIST' to build an international marrow data base to save lives. They build cancer centers and awareness around the world. I have a friend who is suffering from Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. She needs to find a marrow donor, which has been unsuccessful."

March of Dimes

March of Dimes
Chosen by Josh Youmans, Domestic Shipping
"I chose the March of Dimes because very year more than half a million babies are born prematurely in the United States. The rate of premature birth has risen by 30 percent since 1981. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death worldwide."

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society: Colorado-Wyoming Chapter
Chosen by Monica LaHaye, Licensing Manager
"A good friend of mine was recently diagnosed with MS. I was familiar with MS before, but after hearing about her diagnosis, I decided to research it further and I now realize how scary MS really is. It is a lifelong disease with no cure and limited treatment options. The National MS Society is driving research for a cure and helping people, like my friend, face the daily challenges of living with MS."
