Slitrk1 is a protein thought to be involved in neurite outgrowth. Mutations in Slitrk1 may be associated with Tourette syndrome, Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS), and trichotillomania (TTM). GTS is a neurologic disorder manifested particularly by motor and vocal tics and associated with behavioral abnormalities. TTM is a neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by chronic, repetitive, or compulsive hair pulling resulting in noticeable hair loss. Often, GTS and TTM are overlapping psychological disorders.
