The Xeroderma Pigmentosum D (XPD) protein is a DNA helicase that acts as a subunit of the RNA polymerase II complex during nucleotide excision repair (NER) and transcription-coupled repair (TCR). XPD is also involved in p53-mediated apoptosis. XP patients exhibit hypersensitivity to ultraviolet light and have a heightened incidence of skin cancer.
