Background

Galanin occurs in nerve fibers in most parts of the gastrointestinal tract and in nerve cell bodies in both the submucous and the myenteric plexus. Galanin has multiple effects on gut smooth muscle. Absorption with 10-100mg galanin 1-29 per ml diluted antiserum abolishes the staining, while galanin 1-10, VIP, NPY and Substance P do not.

Western blot shows lysates of MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line, U-118-MG human glioblastoma/astrocytoma cell line, C6 rat glioma cell line, and NR8383 rat alveolar macrophage cell line. PVDF membrane was probed with 0.2 µg/mL of Goat Anti-Mouse Galectin-3 Antigen Affinity-purified Polyclonal Antibody (Catalog # AF1197) followed by HRP-conjugated Anti-Goat IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # HAF017). A specific band was detected for Galectin-3 at approximately 28 kDa (as indicated). This experiment was conducted under reducing conditions and using Immunoblot Buffer Group 1.
