>95%, by SDS-PAGE and HPLC
Reconstitution Instructions
Recommended to centrifuge prior to opening. Reconstitute in sterile distilled water or aqueous buffer containing 0.1% BSA to a concentration of 0.1-1.0mg/mL. Apportion stock solutions into working aliquots and store at <-20C.

Notes

This lyophilized preparation is stable at 2-8 degrees C, but should be kept at -20 degrees C for long term storage, preferably desiccated. Upon reconstitution, the preparation is most stable at -20 to -80 degrees C, and can be stored for one week at 2-8 degrees C. For maximal stability, apportion the reconstituted preparation into working aliquots and store at -20 degrees C to -80 degrees C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Alternate Names for Recombinant Mouse CNTF Protein

  • CNTF
  • HCNTF

Background

Ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) is a polypeptide hormone whose actions appear to be restricted to the nervous system where it promotes neurotransmitter synthesis and neurite outgrowth in certain neuronal populations. CNTF was initially identified as a trophic factor for embryonic chick ciliary parasympathetic neurons in culture. Furthermore, the protein is also a potent survival factor for neurons and oligodendrocytes and may be relevant in reducing tissue destruction during inflammatory attacks. In addition, CNTF is useful for treatment of motor neuron disease and it could reduce food intake without causing hunger or stress. Recombinant murine CNTF containing 197 amino acids and it shares 82 % and 95 % a.a. sequence identity with human and rat CNTF.

FAQs for CNTF Protein (NBP2-35168). (Showing 1 - 1 of 1 FAQs).

  1. Is mouse CNTF species specific?
    • With regard to our mouse CNTF protein NBP2-35168, this particular protein is made to the mouse CNTF sequence. The functionality of this protein has only been investigated as a mouse protein. We have not yet tested this protein with use in rat samples or with rat specific antibodies. In general, the rat and mouse sequences for CNTF are very similar. Given an antibody made specifically to the mouse sequence, it is likely to cross react with the rat protein. However, with a protein product, there can be marked differences in the folding and activity of the protein that would prohibit it from being used in a species other than intended.
