This lyophilized preparation is stable at 2-8 degrees C, but should be kept at -20 degrees C for long term storage, preferably desiccated. Upon reconstitution, the preparation is most stable at -20 to -80 degrees C, and can be stored for one week at 2-8 degrees C. For maximal stability, apportion the reconstituted preparation into working aliquots and store at -20 degrees C to -80 degrees C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Details of Functionality
Persephin Protein is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50 as determined by a cell proliferation assay using human TT medullary thyroid cancer cells is less than 0.1 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 1.0 x 10^7 IU/mg.

Background

Persephin belongs to the GDNF ligand subfamily of the TGF-beta superfamily. It promotes the survival and growth of central dopaminergic and motor neurons, and also is involved in kidney development. But persephin does not support survival of peripheral neurons.
