Background
The EPHA5 gene encodes a member of a subfamily of the protein-tyrosine kinase family, an ephrin type-A receptor 5 receptor that exists in three isoforms: isoform 1: 1,037 amino acids long at 114 kDA; isoform 2: 1,015 amino acids long, 112 kDA; and isoform 3: 969 amino acids long at 107 kDA. Receptors of this family function in mediating developmental events especially in the nervous system. EPHA5 participates in the JNK pathway, P2Y receptor signaling, paxillin interactions, intracellular calcium signaling, and EphrinA-ephR signaling. It interacts with genes EFNA2, EFNA1, EFFNA3, EFNA5, and STAT3. EPHA4 is linked to pancreatitis, glioblastoma, cerebritis, ovarian cancer, adenocarcinoma, breast cancer and drug psychosis.
