Tick-borne Diseases: Disease Bioinformatics

Tick-borne diseases are transmitted through tick bites. It takes about 24 hours for the pathogen to travel from the saliva in the tick to the victim’s bloodstream. Common symptoms of tick-borne diseases include rash near the site of the tick bite, fever, headache, muscle ache, and fatigue. Severity of tick-borne diseases ranges, but most types can be treated by antibiotics. However, diagnosis of tick-borne diseases is difficult, and there are no vaccines available for most kinds of tick-borne diseases. To prevent tick-borne diseases, people should wear protective clothing in tick-infested areas, utilize insect repellant, and remove ticks within 24 hours of being bitten.
