PIP Antibody (PIP/7477) [DyLight 755] Summary
Immunogen |
Recombinant fragment (around aa 41-146) of human PIP protein (exact sequence is proprietary) |
Localization |
Cytoplasm (Golgi bodies). Secreted. |
Specificity |
It recognizes a protein of 15kDa, identified as Gross cystic disease fluid protein 15 (PIP). It is a major protein component of benign breast gross cysts. It is a known marker of breast cancer, as it is found in approximately 50% of all breast cancer specimens. PIP, also known as PIP, for prolactin inducible protein, is a prolactin and androgen-controlled protein. This antibody is useful in the identification of metastatic breast carcinoma, or fluid analysis. |

Background
The androgen and prolactin responsive prolactin-inducible protein (PIP), also known as Gross cystic disease fluid protein (GCDFP-15) is expressed in benign and malignant human breast tumors and in such normal exocrine organs as sweat, salivary and lacrimal glands. The hormonally responsive PIP gene is expressed in benign and malignant breast tumor tissues and in such normal exocrine organs as sweat, salivary, and lacrimal glands. The cells within the body that produce PIP/GCDFP 15 appear to be restricted primarily to those with apocrine function. Studies have found PIP to be a highly specific and sensitive marker for breast cancer.
