Background
Histone H1 is the linker protein that is 194 amino acids long, weights approximately 21 kDa, and is part of a group of basic nuclear proteins called histones, which are responsible for nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Histone H1 has a shorter isoform measuring 177 amino acids long and weighing approximately 19 kDa as well. Current studies are being done on several diseases and disorders including paratyphoid fever, hemochromatosis, breast cancer, embryonal carcinoma, prostatitis, carcinoma, and neuronitis. This protein has also been shown to have interactions with ADPRH, CDK2, CDK7, CTCFL, and DOT1L in pathways such as the histone modification, DNA replication, chromosome condensation, PKA signaling, granzyme-A, and apoptosis pathways.
