Hepatitis E is a liver disease caused by the Hepatitis E Virus which typically results in an acute infection. Hepatitis E is not chronic since it doesn’t last for more than six months. This disease is self-limiting and usually resolves itself in 4-6 weeks and rarely, there is acute liver failure that can lead to death. The transmission of Hepatitis E is the oral-fecal route, commonly via contaminated water. Preventative measures can be taken to reduce the risk of becoming infected with Hepatitis E, but there is no cure or globally accepted vaccine for this disease.
