Description
SSEA1 (stage-specific mouse embryonic antigen) is a cell-surface protein involved in cell differentiation. Cell surface antigens are powerful tools for characterizing the function and expression of developmentally regulated cells during both embryogenesis and oncogenesis. SSEA-1 is also known as CD15, although SSEA1 is more commonly used in a stem cell research context because SSEA-1 refers to the marker identified specifically by monoclonal antibody, clone MC-480. Clone MC-480 is now the gold standard reagent for mouse embryonic stem cells. Only mouse ESCs express SSEA1; human SSEA1 only stains cells after differentiation.
