Gpi Anchoring Bioinformatics
Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) is a glycolipid that is covalently attached to the C-terminus during a process called glypiation. Glypiation takes place in the ER, beginning on the cytoplasmic side and ending on the luminal side. GPI anchoring results in the recruitment of proteins to cell membranes. Following their covalent attachment, GPI anchors may also be cleaved by enzymes like phospholipase C.
