Description
PTPD2 is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. The PTPs have high substrate specificity for phosphotyrosyl proteins and, at the primary sequence level, share little similarity with the protein serine phosphatases, protein threonine phosphatases, or the acid and alkaline phosphatases. This PTP contains an N-terminal noncatalytic domain similar to that of band 4.1 superfamily cytoskeleton-associated proteins, which suggested the membrane or cytoskeleton localization of this protein. The specific function of this PTP has not yet been determined, although there is evidence to suggest that PTPD2 is involved in regulating cell proliferation.
