Description
The FGF17 gene codes for a fibroblast growth factor 17 protein that in isoform 1 is 216 amino acids long at 24 kDA and in isoform 2 is 205 amino acids long at 23 kDA. This gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family so is thought to participate in nervous system development and function, specifically in embryonic development as well as a signaling molecule in the induction and patterning of the embryonic brain. FGF14 is involved in regulation of actin cytoskeleton, MAPK signaling, signaling by FGFR and FGFR mutants, as well as downstream signal transduction. It interacts with genes EGFR, FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3, and FGFR4. FGF14 is associated with pancreatitis, breast cancer, leukemia, melanoma, and adenocarcinoma.
