MCP-1 and Lethal Attractions

The Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP1) is a member of the C-C chemokine family, and a potent chemotactic factor for monocytes. MCP-1 is of particular relevance to cancer invasion and metastasis as it is over-expressed in a variety of cancer types, including glioma, ovarian, lung, breast and prostate cancers (1). MCP1-mediated macrophage infiltration is known to promote tumor progression in various cancers, as MCP1 is known to play a crucial role in tumor tissue inflammatory response by activating and inducing the infiltration of macrophages and regulating adhesion factors (2).

Immunocytochemistry/Immunofluorescence: MCP1 Antibody

Monocytes are critical for the initiation of tumor as they adhere to and invade endothelium activated by the increased shear stress that results from large pressure differences between perfused areas (3). Age related arterial remodeling and the involvement of MCP1 has been demonstrated by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting using anti-MCP-1 antibodies suggesting that threshold levels of MCP-1 and other related molecular activity trigger a feed-forward signaling mechanism implicated in the initiation and progression of adverse age-associated arterial wall remodeling (4). Gene therapy of cells with MCP-1 to control the infiltration of macrophages and control various chronic diseases is a hopeful area of research.
