Stomach Cancer Stage: Disease Bioinformatics

Stomach cancer typically begins in the upper sac of the abdomen. It is fairly uncommon in the United States but it's more common in China and Japan. Because it is typically diagnosed in the later stages, its prognosis is common poor. Risk factors for stomach cancer include: poor diets, anemia, smoking, family history, stomach inflammation, and some stomach infections. Treatments of stomach cancer include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and targeted drugs. There are four stages of stomach cancer that change the treatment plan based on severity of the cancer. Many of the stages are divided into subgroups as well that give more detail to the progression of the cancer.
