Description
The Ephrin B gene (EPHB6) encodes an ephrin type-B receptor 6 protein that has three isoforms. Isoform 1 is 1,021 amino acids long at 110 kDA while isoform 2 is 744 amino acids long, 81 kDA, and isoform 3 is 540 amino acids long at 57 kDA. Ephrin receptors are critical to various developmental processes especially in the nervous system. The receptor coded by the EPHB6 gene lacks the kinase activity of most receptor tyrosine kinases, thus binds to ephrin-B ligands. EPHB6 is involved in axon guidance, cell adhesion ephrins signaling, MAPK signaling, cytoskeleton remodeling reverse signaling by ephrin B, and endothelin-1 signaling pathway. It is known to interact with genes CRK, CRKL, EFNB2, MLLT4, and SAT1. EPHB6 has been investigated regarding its role in various diseases such as: leukemia, neuroblastoma, breast cancer, astrocytoma, gliosarcoma; familial colorectal cancer, melanoma, prostate carcinoma, and lung cancer.
