SCP3: A Key to Meiotic Recombination, Sterility and Cancer

Fri, 01/10/2014 - 09:49

Synaptonemal Complex Protein 3 (SCP3), which is a protein present in the synaptonemal complex which is responsible for pairing, synapsis, and recombination of homologous chromosomes during meiosis. Meiosis, in basic terms, is where germ cells divide to produce gametes. This is accomplished through DNA replication and two rounds of cell division. During this process, chromosomes exchange segments with each other in a process called recombination. SCP3 is found in germ cells, testes and ovaries. Mutated SCP3 has been studied extensively in male sterility. A defect in this protein has been found to cause certain spermatogenic failure, which results in no sperm being present in the ejaculate. In recent years, SCP3 has been studied as a cell transformation marker with prognostic significance in several types of cancer. Using an SCP3 antibody, the protein has been found to be aberrantly expressed in tumors, and has also impaired chromosomal integrity of mitotic cells. The new findings linking SCP3 to cancer and mitosis has opened up a huge new interest in research on this protein.

Immunohistochemistry-Paraffin: SCP3 Antibody Immunohistochemistry-Paraffin: SCP3 Antibody

Novus Biologicals offers several SCP3 antibodies that will react with several host species. The antibodies work well for Western Blots, Immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry frozen and paraffin, and Immunocytochemistry. These antibodies have already been referenced successfully in several publications, and are available with a number of different conjugates which will save preparation time during research.
