Background

NKX6.1 (homeobox protein Nkx-6.1) is a transcription factor that binds to specific A/T-rich sequences in promoter regions of several genes and is known for its involvement in transcriptional regulation in islet beta cells via NKX6.1-insulin promoter binding mediated control of insulin gene. Together with NKX2-2 as well as IRX3, NKX6.1 acts to restrict the generation of motor neurons to the appropriate region of the neural tube. It belongs to neuronal progenitor factors class II proteins that are induced by SHH signals and is a member of the homeodomain family of transcription factors responsible for multiple organ systems development. The pancreatic development involves many such homeodomain proteins including Hb9, Pdx1, Pax4, Nkx2.2, and importantly on Nkx6.1 and mice deficient for Nkx6.1 display a dramatic reduction in beta-cell numbers in pancreas with near-normal development of other glandular cell types. Moreover, Nkx6.1 deficient mice have significant defects involving V2 interneuron and motor neuron specification in the ventral spinal cord, thereby emphasizing an important parallel in developmental pathways leading to beta-cells and neurons.

  1. Has this antibody been tested on cryo sections for immunohistochemistry?
    • Unfortunately the antibody has never been tested with any frozen section (so called IHC-Fr). This antibody had been tested, in lab, for using in WB, ICC/IF, and IHC-P as these were already posted on the web. Our company use "IHC" just for a faster indexing/searching or browsing the webpages. In theory, when an antibody product can be used in IHC-P, usually it can be used in IHC-Fr with the same dilutions; but not the way around. Therefore you could consider to include NBP1-49672 for using in your ongoing IHC-Fr experiments.
