Background

alpha -Synuclein is a member of a family of small, soluble proteins that also include beta -, and gamma -Synuclein. alpha -Synuclein is predominantly expressed in neurons of the central nervous system, specifically in the presynaptic region of nerve terminals.  This protein cycles between a free, partially unfolded form and a helical, membrane-bound form.  alpha -Synuclein can aggregate in vivo and in vitro, forming various oligomeric species and fibrillar and amorphous aggregates.  The fibrils and amyloidal forms are major components of Lewy Bodies and have been linked to the pathogenesis of Parkinson's Disease dementia.  alpha -Synuclein aggregates can also be found associated with amyloid plaques in Alzheimer's Disease.

FAQs for alpha-Synuclein (SP-485). (Showing 1 - 1 of 1 FAQ).

  1. I'm looking for an alpha-Synuclein antibody with an epitope located in the first half (N-terminus) of the protein - preferably a monoclonal antibody. Can you help me with that?
    • Please take a look at NB110-57475. It has been validated for human, rat and mouse and the applications ICC and WB and the epitope it detects is in the N terminal.
