Meningitis, Escherichia Coli: Disease Bioinformatics

Meningitis causes inflammation of the meninges which is the protective membranes surrounding the in the brain and spinal cord. The inflammation is caused by an infection in the fluid surrounding the brain or spinal. Escherichia coli, or E. coli, is a bacteria that is a common cause of food poisoning and food recalls, but most strains are harmless. E. coli Meningitis is most common in infants under the age of three months. In developed countries, E. coli Meningitis accounts for about 20% of the meningitis cases in newborns, but in developing countries it is much more prevalent. Since E. coli Meningitis is bacterial meningitis, it can be treated with antibiotics.
